Volunteering
Volunteer Opportunities
Each watershed has project activities for volunteers
to work on and these occur at irregular
times - contact us to be put on the email
or phone contact lists. These "outdoor'
jobs include water quality monitoring,
stream invertebrate assessment,
stream side planting, invasive species removal,
mapping and stream channel construction,
among others.
We also need volunteers
to help with administration, bookkeeping,
restoration planning, web site updates, and stewardship
group coordination.

Watershed model builder
Overview:Peninsula Streams Society is looking for one or more individuals to undertake the building of a new watershed model. The watershed model is used in our elementary school based environmental education programs. A photograph of a watershed model in use is available on the "Education" page.
Description: The watershed model is a three dimensional model of a local watershed and surrounding area. It is built on top of a standard piece of plywood, with a 6-8 inch lip. High density foam is shaped to model the natural contours of the area of interest and attached to the plywood. The model is then sealed, painted and scale items are added (i.e. buildings, painted on roads, trees).
Requirements: The builder should have basic carpentry skills. (Assistance cutting wood for the base may be available). Previous experience buidling models, such as for model railroads, would be helpful. The volunteer(s) should have space available to them to build the model and store supplies during the building process. Peninsula Streams Society will provide funding for supplies and materials.
