Projects and Programs

Since 2003 Peninsula Streams has been working with Claremont Secondary students on Noble Creek under our VanCity Career Prep program. With help from Kevin Jancowski of CERCA ( Coastal Environmental Restoration Cooperative Association) students have been sampling for fish and determining water quality. CERCA has been involved in restoring Noble Creek for seven years.

In October 2000, a progress report was submitted to the South Islands Aquatic Stewardship Society Improvement Project Interim Report Regarding Noble Creek Salmon Habitat. Read the report here

Backgrounder

Noble Creek is a permanent second order stream with one relatively short tributary arising from the Lochside Trail area from a number of apparently spring fed ponds and a larger main branch running south from Island View Road. The main channel is approximately 4.65 km in length.

Noble Creek is the currently-used name for the system although it was formerly called Sayward Creek and the channelized main branch of the stream flowing south from Island View Road is called McHugh Ditch or McHugh Creek.

Noble Creek supported salmon as recently as 30 years ago and recent work intends to re-establish them.
